WELCOME
TO THE
Tarrant County Archeological Society
WEB SITE.
WE'RE GLAD YOU'RE HERE
TCAS is one of the most active archaeological societies in Texas. The Tarrant County Archeological Society
is an active part of the Texas Archaeological Society. Our membership
represents a wide variety of archeological backgrounds and interests: from Paleo to
Historic; Texas to the Southwest to the World;
from Archaeologists to Avocationals to people simply looking for more information
about archaeology.
Our members have served and continue to serve in leadership positions with TAS.
Large numbers of our members attend the annual TAS Field School each summer and
the TAS annual meeting each fall. TCAS is also often a host society for TAS
events.
Our monthly TCAS meetings, the second Thursday of each month, include a wide
array of speakers and topics. During the past year we have learned more about
the Astronomical Features at Paint Rock, Origins of Village Life and Farming
Economies in the Near East, the Newest Findings at Little Big Horn, and Mimbres
Cosmology by such noted archaeologists and writers as Bill Yeates, Dr. Benjamin
Arbuckle, Michael Donahue, and Dr. Harry Shafer.
We are also very active "in the field" with several ongoing projects. We try to
have excavation, survey, and/or artifact identification projects on a monthly
basis, of course, depending on weather. We are in the process of developing a
program to assist Boy Scouts in achieving their Archeology Merit Badge. We
expect this program will expand to include Girl Scouts and other youth groups.
We invite you to attend a monthly meeting. Directions and a map are available on
the "Map" page of this site. If you're looking for more information on Texas
Archaeology, please check our "Links" page. Or, if you're just curious, please
request more information using the link below. We hope to see you at one of the
meetings!
